79 Series Custom Canopy Build with an 850 litre fridge!
You may find it difficult to find a link between Crawley, one of Perths leafiest suburbs and Rawlinna, a one horse town in the middle of the Nullarbor plain 400km east of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, its a stark contrast. Today though a 2020 79 series single cab GXL Toyota Landcruiser drove out the door of our workshop with a head turning custom made Core Offroad canopy that you will not only see at Crawley and Rawlinna but at just about every big event throughout the state.
Carl and Lisa of Charlies Pizza wanted a unique rig that met the requirements of a unique business. So they came to us. The brief… make us a canopy that can hold an 850 litre fridge, an 80 litre Engel, 2 swags, a tent, our clothes, our food … but most importantly our cocktail blender! Oh and one (or two) other things – it’s got to look better than any other 79 series, be dustpproof and have the onboard electrical components to allow us to stay offgrid for a week at a time. And we dont want a tradies canopy!
So 500 watts of solar and 200 amp hours of battery later along with a fully ticked off wish list Father Christmas would shake his head at, they drove out smiling.
Charlies Pizza are a small business owned by Lisa and Carl. From late November until early April you can find them in their pizza shop at Somerville Cinema within the grounds of The University of Western Australia. And for the rest of the year on the road… The Nullarbor Muster Rawlinna , Mullewa Muster, Winning Bush Gymkhana on Towera Station, Karratha, Port Hedland, Gascoyne Junction, Landor Races, Meekatharra right down to Bridgetown and everywhere in between . Remote catering and pizza is their game and they need reliability and strength in every facet of their vehicle, that’s why they came to us with their Toyota. Are they happy? A big fridge means big canopy but the customer had some requirements to go along with it so we used some features that you would see in our GT and GTX model canopies to give it the finishing touches and storage required.
